The “Klöckeln” Tradition

An ancient Advent tradition
This ancient tradition takes place on the first three Thursday evenings during Advent, before the winter solstice.
With this custom, a group of hooded men goes door to door asking for gifts.

The Dialect of Sarntal Valley

Famous in All South Tyrol
The German dialect of this valley is famous for its strong accent everywhere in South Tyrol.

Here are a few words from the Sarner dialect:
  • "Ein Paar Sarnar Toppar" – Typical Sarner felt slippers
  • "Söldor" – Balcony
  • "Fierte" – Apron
  • "Pfoat" – Shirt
  • "Janggar" – Wool jacket

Kränzelstein Tower

Guided tours of the tower
This tower was built in the 13th century by the Counts of Eppan and over time saw various owners and renovations. In 1635, it belonged to the Lords of the Court of Sarnthein, and in 1777, it served as a prison. Following restoration work in 2022, the tower was opened to the public for guided tours.
